Gutters should work with the roof, not against it.

Roof edges, gutters, downspouts, and discharge points move water away from the building. A useful gutter scope looks at that whole path instead of treating one component in isolation.

What gutters are doing

Gutters collect water at the roof edge, direct it to downspouts, and discharge it away from sensitive parts of the structure. Slope, capacity, attachment, roof geometry, landscaping, and the final discharge location all affect how the system performs.

Overflow or staining

Water moving over the edge or leaving repeated marks.

Loose or separated sections

Attachment, joints, corners, or end conditions that no longer work together.

Roof-edge concerns

Water interaction around drip edge, fascia, valleys, or concentrated flow.

Discharge problems

Downspouts or extensions releasing water where it creates another concern.

A coordinated scope

When roofing and gutters meet, sequencing matters. The proposal should identify what is removed, retained, adjusted, or installed; how roof-edge details are handled; and where water is intended to discharge.

Options depend on the property

Size, material, color, guards, downspout locations, drainage additions, and fabrication method should be selected for the property and stated in the proposal.

Routine maintenance can help, but ladders, roof edges, electrical hazards, and unstable surfaces create real risk. Use a qualified provider when access is not safe.
